Does anyone know anything about it?
I was hanging out with my dad the other day and we had to run by the local small engine repair shop so he could drop off his chainsaw to get some work done on it. My dad is friends with the owner and he was in, so we got to talking and he showed us his Race Mower. He has a kid working at the shop who races karts in local and regional leagues, and the two of them heard about it and built the mower for fun. The kid ran it at a few races this year and did very well, snagging a few podiums.
He runs in ARMA - American Racing Mower Association. He said it's $25 for a full year membership, and that covers all your entry fees for as many races as you want to run, and they have probably 100 or so. He said the downside is that ARMA sets up these races mostly at county fairs and things like that so you have to travel quite a bit if you want to get a whole lot of racing in.
He said from a cost stand point, they have classes that go from stock to unlimited. His current tractor races in a Stock Engine/Mod Chassis class. You're limited to 31 cubic inches and you can't do any internal engine work. But you can do unlimited chassis and transmission mods. He says the big thing with that class is it's RPM limited, you aren't allowed to turn more than 3650 rpms, but with the right gearing he can hit about 40mph on it. Something like that ran him around $1500 to $2000 to get setup. He's also working on an Unlimited Singles class tractor for this year. These are basically no-holds-barred, the only major rules are single cylinder, 33 cubic inches, normally aspirated. He said he's already got about $6,000 in this tractor and its still not quite ready to go.
Does anyone else have any experience in this? I've got a few racing friends from FSAE that are all still in the area and we've been itching for some racing to do. We've talked about Spec Miata or something like that, but even so, we've figured you're looking at around $10,000 to get in and going. But I think for $2,000 we could have a lot of fun mower racing, and it's so much easier not needing a trailer, etc, or taking up a whole garage bay to store the thing. What do you all think?

My uncle does this and loves it. If any of you watched the Duck Dynasty episode with the mower racing. His was the yellow one. I think he was wearing a black motorcycle helmet. They race in Castor, LA. It's a blast to watch. Really funny seeing a mower going that fast. I haven't done it so I don't have any idea about startup costs.

BLAST FROM THE PAST.
they do a 12 hour endurance race each year and Kimi Raikkonen attended one of their races this year.
